 旋塞閥是關(guān)閉件或柱塞形的旋轉(zhuǎn)閥，通過旋轉(zhuǎn)90度使閥塞上的通道口與閥體上的通道口相通或分開，實(shí)現(xiàn)開啟或關(guān)閉的一種閥門。旋塞閥的閥塞的形狀可成圓柱形或圓錐形。在圓柱形閥塞中，通道一般成矩形；而在錐形閥塞中，通道成梯形。這些形狀使旋塞閥的結(jié)構(gòu)變得輕巧，但同時也產(chǎn)生了一定的損失。旋塞閥最適于作為切斷和接通介質(zhì)以及分流適用，但是依據(jù)適用的性質(zhì)和密封面的耐沖蝕性，有時也可用于節(jié)流。

 旋塞閥是一種快速開關(guān)的直通閥，由于旋密封面之間運(yùn)動帶有擦拭作用，而在全開時可完全防止與流動介質(zhì)的接觸，故它通常也能用于帶懸浮顆粒的介質(zhì)。旋塞閥的另一個重要特性是它易于適應(yīng)多通道結(jié)構(gòu)，以致一個閥可以獲得兩個、三個，甚至四個不同的流道。這樣可以簡化管道系統(tǒng)的設(shè)計(jì)、減少閥門用量以及設(shè)備中需要的一些連接配件。

旋塞閥是用帶通孔的塞體作為啟閉件的閥門。塞體隨閥桿轉(zhuǎn)動，以實(shí)現(xiàn)啟閉動作。小型無填料的旋塞閥又稱為“考克”。旋塞閥的塞體多為圓錐體（也有圓柱體），與閥體的圓錐孔面配合組成密封副。旋塞閥是使用最早的一種閥門，結(jié)構(gòu)簡單、開關(guān)迅速、流體阻力小。普通旋塞閥靠精加工的金屬塞體與閥體間的直接接觸來密封，所以密封性較差，啟閉力大，容易磨損，通常只能用于低壓（不高于1兆帕）和小口徑（小于100毫米）的場合。
